Akron leaf pickup schedule

Leaf pickup will begin in each ward on these days. This schedule can change due to inclement weather.

  • Ward 5 - Oct. 30
  • Ward 3 - Nov. 1
  • Ward 6 - Nov. 3
  • Ward 10 - Nov. 7
  • Ward 4 - Nov. 10
  • Ward 8 - Nov. 16
  • Ward 2 - Nov. 16
  • Ward 1 - Nov. 25
  • Ward 7 - Dec. 2
  • Ward 9 - Dec. 6

The city suggests residents rake leaves into the street one day before the scheduled pick-up day, according to the program website.

Leaves should be no more than two feet from the curb or edge of the street.

No vehicle should be parked on the street when crews begin working, and no vehicles should be parked on piles of leaves. Any vehicles left in the street can be towed or fined.

To make leaf collection more efficient, the city also asks residents not to place branches and other debris in the street as crews will pick up leaf-only piles. Bags of leaves will not be picked up. To arrange a bag collection, call 311 for a sanitation bulk pickup.

To learn more about the leaf removal program, visit the city of Akron website or call 311 or 330-375-2311.

New Lowe's Outlet Store

Lowe's Outlet Store opened in early October; the Cuyahoga Falls location is one of the home improvement chain's 14 outlet stores in the nation. The store features new items that have minor to moderate damage, discontinued and slightly used items.

The Lowe's Outlet includes warranty options, with delivery, and haul-away options available, Snow said. Patrons with a Lowe's credit card can use the cards at the outlet store as well.

However, those looking for a discounted appliance or other items must come to the store directly, Snow added. Online purchases are not available for the outlet store, and items can't be ordered to the outlet. Those services, Snow said, must be done through the regular Lowe's retail stores.

"Every day we get new stuff," Snow said.

The new Lowe's Outlet is at 330 Howe Ave. in Cuyahoga Falls

Assumed Mayor Elect Shamus Malik Building Cabinet

While we haven't voted yet officially, Shammas Malik has begun accepting applications to be a part of his incoming administration.

In posts on Facebook and Instagram, the transition team called for applicants for director of economic development, director of human resources, director of law, director of planning and a new position in the city's structure — director of sustainability and resiliency. The posts also invite people to send resumes if they wish to be considered for other roles not specifically mentioned.

Well, it's that time of year again when the leaves are fallen, and it is getting cold out there. And I don't know about you, there's nothing more fun than raking the leaves as it's snowing, but they're going to be picking up your leaves. Here is the schedule. October 30 is word five. November 1 is word three. November 3 is word six, you get the idea. I've got a whole schedule going all the way into Ward nine, which is December 6. So if you check your episode description, I will have a link to this schedule along with a link if you're like me going, wait, what word am I in? There is a new outlet store. This is a Lowe's outlet store actually, at The Chapel Hill Plaza. If you're like, wait, Chapel Hill doesn't exist. The Chapel Hill Plaza is basically the one with Ollie's and giant eagle and Dick's and all that. So what's interesting about this, it's only one of 14 outlet stores in the nation. And it's right here. And the outlet store includes warranty options with delivery and Holloway options available. And if you have a Lowe's credit card, you can use it there. However, they say those looking for a discounted appliance or other items must come to the store directly. online purchases are not available for the outlet store and items can't be ordered to the outlet. Those services must go through the regular Lowe's or regular retail stores. And according to the manager, there is new stuff every day. The address is 330 Howe Avenue in Cuyahoga Falls, happy shopping. Assumed Mayor which is always sounds kind of weird, but he's up against basically a shoe or something. Democratic key he won the Democratic Party, Seamus Malik is starting to build his cabinet. We haven't officially voted but it's kind of assumed again. So on posts on Facebook and Instagram, the transition team called for applicants for Director of Economic Development, Director of Human Resources, Director of Law, Director of Planning and a new position in the city structure director of sustainability and resiliency. The posts also invite people to send resumes, if they wish to be considered for other roles not specifically mentioned, those links are in the show notes. I don't know if you knew this but they have been tearing down the Goodrich smokestacks. And we reported on this a while ago but the gorge dam removal project is up and going and they're having a meeting. Let's see Wednesday, October 25, from six to 7pm at the main Akron Summit County Public Library, which of course is on South High Street. And if you can't make it, they are going to stream it on YouTube. But if you're a person that wants to get some last pictures while the dam is still there, they're going to be talking about how to remove it because there it's not like they're gonna blow the dam and they're done. There's a bunch of soot and stuff at the bottom of the river that they have to drag out first, but it is they are moving forward. So if you want to be up to date on that, that's where you can find out. This was just announced Grammy Award winner singer songwriter, guitar player blues legend Bonnie Raitt will be coming to the Civic Theater next year. However, there will be a special presale, this Wednesday and Thursday. Links are in the show notes I know I just mentioned Bonnie Raitt. I forgot to mention if you go out to Akron podcast.com/events There's a lot of funny people coming. There's some great music coming here. So great folk artists out of the Kent stage, all sorts of great stuff. It's out there and Akron podcast.com. And if you liked the show, please tell a friend I know, I've been gone quite a while the show went on a kind of unplanned hiatus and I am back and I am looking for some systems to put in place to make this a little easier. So we can do it a little more on a consistent basis at this point is going to be when I find enough, you know, three or four news items to throw together.
