Welcome to the Akron podcast for July 25 2022, rhinos and tigers and cookies. Oh my. Hey, I'm Dave Jackson from the School of podcasting.com. Thanks for joining us for the Akron podcast. And when I heard this, I was like, am I getting punked? Yeah, the Akron zoo, which we all know, you know, if you want if you look at that map of where to get shot at in Akron, yeah, the Akron zoo plans to raise a glass and toast its Tigers that a special event after-hours event for adults, and then a kid-friendly event the day before, but the one for adults Yeah. To mark Tiger day The zoo is hosting its first adults only tequila and tigers event from 630 to 930. On July 30. Does anybody remember like what was a nickel beer night? At the stadium? Yeah, that went well. Tickets are available at Akron, zoo.org/tequila and tigers. I'll put a link in the show notes. It's way too long. They're $35 and include a trio of Margarita tastings chips and salsa, Tiger keeper talks, tiger training, a demonstration and other activities. What could go wrong? There's a whole bunch of other drinks. Besides tequila, if that's not your thing, there is going to be a kid-friendly activity the day before. That's July 29. From 10am to 5pm. At The Zoo to international Tiger day, the zoo will celebrate its two I guess, Sumatran tigers eco and do guru with crafts, special Tiger training talks and other activities. links in the show notes out at Akron podcast.com/ 49. I'm just saying I know a lot of stories that end horribly start off with we started drinking tequila. Oh, we're gonna stick with the zoo theme here.
And I know this is Cleveland, but a new Rhino baby has been born at the Cleveland Zoo. These are rare and it's got a face that only a mother can love. Have a link to the story in the show notes at an Akron podcast.com/ 49 where you can click and see the baby rhino in Cleveland.
This is a sad story. And I'm being sarcastic here. And I don't mean to be disrespectful, but so many people are getting shot in Akron, that there are people like look, hey, my kid got shot and it's not getting any media play. Because 20 year old a Tavi Robinson came to the Regal movie theater on Independence Avenue. If you're like wait, is that in Independence? No. That's up by what used to be Chapel Hill. It's across the parking lot from Chapel Hill. She went there with her boyfriend for a date night when her boyfriend got into an argument with someone on the phone. They left the movie early. And that's when they were both gunned down in the parking lot. Unfortunately, there is no like security cameras at the theater.
Maybe they ought to install some or put one I don't know somebody needs I thought Akron got a bunch of money for cameras apparently we need one up by Chapel Hill. The Crime Stoppers is offering a $5,000 reward for any information that leads to the arrest. The family has also raised $15,000 on their own to help drum up leads. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Akron Police Department detective bureau. I'll put a link to the number and everything out there. It's just sad. But they were literally like, hey, everybody is talking about you know, Jalen Walker, and nobody's talking about my daughter who got cut. That got gunned down in a parking lot. They don't say what time this was, but it's just sad, man. Can we all? I don't know. Has anyone ever heard of like having a dialogue, maybe hearing both sides of the story instead of just pulling out your nine and go into town.
And we can't talk shootings without talking Akron police and the people down at Sweet Mary's bakery on Mill Street. Have a cookie designed with the police in mind that says in writing on the cookie, the police yep, right there and get yourself a big old mouthful of police cookies.
Now Tara Mosley from Ward five is pro the police cookies. So if that's going to be what you're basing your vote on, you know, and if you want to help out a local downtown company and get yourself a police cookie, by all means it's just fun saying police cookie. There's a phrase you don't usually you don't pair cookie with the phrase, the police. It's kind of different that way But what I think is interesting about this is the minute somebody voiced an opinion in this case the V opinion being police you know then this guy who's running for State Representative Chris Anderson came out as he is anti police cookies. So the minute somebody voices that opinion the lines form here for pro and con and of course it becomes a political kind of thing that people are getting okay is is a police cookie is that red or blue and then the lines form bricks are thrown it's gonna be just another thing to argue over which is exactly what we need an accurate
