Speaker A

Swenses has introduced, of course, a pumpkin milkshake made with real pumpkin pie filling.

Speaker A

Swenson's is Also celebrating its 90th anniversary this year, adding even more reason to savor the season.

Speaker B

Speaker B

Duffers and pros alike will have a chance to take their first swings at the newly remodeled and rebranded Topgolf Akron on Friday.

Speaker B

Topgolf Akron at 600 Swartz Road will be open from 9am to midnight seven days a week.

Speaker A

And if you've never been, you swing and it's weird.

Speaker A

Their balls are somehow have something in them so that you can track them and they'll tell you how many yards you went.

Speaker A

And you can aim at stuff.

Speaker A

They got food there as well.

Speaker A

I'll put a link to the top Gault website in our episode Description man, what a weekend.

Speaker A

This is depressing.

Speaker A

Two teenagers were shot, another one was killed on Paris Avenue.

Speaker A

A 25 year old was found dead on Keys Place.

Speaker A

A 44 year old woman was shot on East South Street.

Speaker A

So I don't know, can we all get a new hobby besides killing each other?

Speaker A

I mean holy cow, that was just over the weekend.

Speaker A

This always drives me nuts when I find out how much actual teachers make and then I hear stuff like this, which is According to the Beacon Journal, a $1.65 million exit package was approved for Bill Neville, who is the executive director of the State Teachers Retirement System, better known as STRS of Ohio.

Speaker A

Neville's departure follows mounting board dissatisfaction and a controversial anonymous letter accusing him of.

Speaker A

Of harassment, which an investigation later dismissed is unfounded.

Speaker A

So, okay, it was dismissed.

Speaker A

The package includes over $500,000.

Speaker A

Now, for those of you who aren't sitting in front of a computer, that's a half a million dollars, kids.

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker A

So it includes that in lump sum payments occurred, time off and two years of added service credit value at $760,000 for his pension.

Speaker A

And this is a guy we didn't like.

Speaker A

What?

Speaker A

Now, the State Teachers Retirement System, that board overseeing $90 billion in investments for 500,000 teachers and retirees, has faced ongoing tension and calls for reform.

Speaker A

You think?

Speaker A

Activists have been pushing for more transparency, you think?

Speaker A

Criticizing leadership decisions and challenging board members over issues like executive bonuses.

Speaker A

You think?

Speaker A

And the suspension of cost of living increases for retirees.

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker A

Why would we want to, you know, pay retired teachers more money after they.

Speaker A

Anyway, but we can give this guy 1.65 million.

Speaker A

I know it's not quite time yet, and after this week with the whole election, we're all probably going to need a stiff one, but if it was November 16th through the 24th, you could go to the John S.

Speaker A

Knight center in downtown Akron and go to Akron Children's Hospital annual Holiday Tree Festival.

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker A

The admission is free for the festival.

Speaker A

Got to love that.

Speaker A

Which will feature 165 decorated trees, 80 wreaths and holiday gifts available for purchase.

Speaker A

All items on display are donated by local corporation groups and individuals, and they're going to be available for sale to benefit the hospital.

Speaker A

Gift items such as holiday decorations, gifts and small toys can be purchased and taken home the same day.

Speaker A

For 43 years, the holiday Tree Festival has been a holiday tradition for families in Akron and the surrounding communities, bringing joy and excitement to the start of the holiday season.

Speaker A

That's from festival chairperson Mary Luca.

Speaker A

So the visiting hours or the viewing hours for the Holiday Tree Festival are Saturday.

Speaker A

That's from 10 to 8.

Speaker A

That's the 16th, the 17th, 11 to 6, Monday, 11am to 8pm so pretty much all day.

Speaker A

That's also for Tuesday and Wednesday and Thursday.

Speaker A

So basically 11 to 8, except on the weekends when it's 10 to 8 and 11 to 6.

Speaker A

But I'll have links to this article from the Beacon.

Speaker A

And if you're ready to get in the holiday spirit, this is a good way to do it.

Speaker A

And it's free.

Speaker A

Well, here's some good news.

Speaker A

On Monday, the Mayor of Akron is going to kind of bring forth some legislation so that the SWAT team and the narcotics team in Akron will wear body cameras.

Speaker A

Beautiful.

Speaker A

And here's why I like this.

Speaker A

Remember when they put together that racial equity social justice task force to kind of look into police?

Speaker A

Well, yeah, this is part of that.

Speaker A

So they brought it up and the mayor is bringing it to the city council.

Speaker A

Now the legislation calls for the city to enter into a three year agreement.

Speaker A

So remember, this is three years with a company called Axon.

Speaker A

The cost of these body cameras, three years, $122,183.

Speaker A

So to me, that sounds like a step in the right direction.

Speaker A

The question is, of course, we're all a little skeptical.

Speaker A

We're like, what happens if somebody accidentally turns one of those off?

Speaker A

Because there are times when we could have really used some, you know, body cams.

Speaker A

But we'll see.

Speaker A

Let's not be too cynical.

Speaker A

It's a step in the right direction.

Speaker A

And I'll have links to everything out in the episode description@akronpodcast.com and now when I tell you about a way you can save money.

Speaker A

Look, the holidays are brutal sometimes.

Speaker A

And wouldn't it have been cool if all this time when you buy something, it's like a $37 the app acorns and you can get a card with this you tied.

Speaker A

It's a bank.

Speaker A

And think about it, I've had the same bank forever and I never go to it.

Speaker B

Right.

Speaker A

We all do it via the web or if we need it, an atm.

Speaker A

My ATM is right in a circle K.

Speaker A

And here's the beauty of acorns.

Speaker A

You earn interest on your money.

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker A

Remember when he used to do that like back in the 70s?

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker A

So you can actually earn interest on your money.

Speaker A

And you can use this Roundup tool where if I bought something for a dollar ninety, it take the ten cents, round it up to two and put that ten cents in the savings account.

Speaker A

So when things like, I don't know, Christmas roll around, you're like, oh, I got some money.

Speaker A

And again, that particular account, a savings account, earns even more interest.

Speaker A
