Gorge Park Update: Will the Waterfall Survive?

Today on the show, an update on the Gorge park.

The crime report, what's going on with Skyway in Green, free tickets to the zoo, the WNBA is returning to Cleveland and some really fun events.

well, if you like the Gorge park, you better go check it out if you want to see the waterfall because here's what's going to happen.

In about two weeks they're going to start taking from what the article in the Beacon Journal said.

Eleven, 11 football fields, 12ft tall of sediment is at the bottom, at the, you know, the bottom of the waterfall there.

And so they're somehow going to scoop that out via tube or something and send it to a designated location.

That's going to take about two years, as you might imagine.

And so I'm not sure how much of this is going to get roped off, like if you're still going to be able to go and see the waterfall there.

They showed pictures in the Beacon Journal going back to like the 1800s where that used to be just a little more, shall we say, less aggressive waterfall, Little more like Brandywine where there's a fall and then there's some flat and then a little fall and then a little flat.

But if you love the gorge and want to go check out the dam again, I'm not sure what's going to happen once this construction starts in about two weeks.

Two people were shot but not killed in University park over the weekend.

And then we had another person shot and killed, unfortunately.

26 year old man.

And I hate reporting these and I sometimes feel like we're gaslit, like, no, no, crime is down.

And the thing I always want to make sure is when somebody says, hey, crime is down comparing to last year, make sure that if you think about it like right now it's September, okay, There's October, November and December left.

And when they compare it to last year, are they comparing it through August of last year or are they comparing basically nine months to 12 months?

That's the part that I go, can we get a little clarification on that?

But if we could all just de escalate.

I just saw a video and it was at a Florida airport.

People are throwing things at each other and pulling each other's hair and all sorts of.

And there's always like four people sitting there filming it.

So we've got four different, you know, angles and they're all going, whoa, oh, oh, whoa.

Okay, three of you need to put your phones down and try to de escalate the situation because inevitably it ends up with somebody going to jail or even worse, somebody getting shot and killed.

If you live in green, you might notice that the Skyway restaurant, the Drive in restaurant, is closed.

And if you're like, I wonder if it's coming back, the answer is no.

It's been there for 28 years.

And if you want some Skyway, you're gonna have to go to Fairlawn now because they've closed that now.

In reality, if you guys don't know this Skyway, Dilly's and Swensons are all very, very similar.

So maybe if you're in green, you just hop over to what used to be the Rubber bowl there on Triplet Boulevard and you pick yourself up some dillies if you don't want to drive all the way to Fairlawn.

I saw this headline and was all excited that you can get free tickets to the Akron Zoo.

Now if you're going to the Akron Zoo, do not look at the map on our website for all the shootings because it's pretty close.

But anyway, they the Akron Zoo said you can get free tickets and it will be applied based on the residence address.

There are a limited amount of free tickets available each day.

And in this article it doesn't really say how like tickets two, like how many free tickets are we talking?

Once tickets run out, no more will be available.

And they say tickets are limited to four per household.

So again, this is from the Beacon Journal.

So when they say once tickets run out, no more will be available for the month or for the day.

They say parking is also free and you can go there.

They have Tamar, the second oldest male in the lion in the lion exhibit is there and he just celebrated his 20th birthday.

But it sounds interesting.

Like, hey, free tickets to the zoo.

So you might want to call them.

I'll put a link to the zoo in the show notes.

But you know, it just said they're offering free days for all Summit county residents through the entire month of September as a thank you for or their continued support.

So you might want to call in advance saying, hey, I am from Summit county because you don't want to show up thinking you're going to get a free ticket and then oops, sorry, we already gave both of them away.

Really kind of vague there.

We don't cover a lot of sports here, but this is news.

If you haven't heard, the WNBA is going to add a team back to Cleveland.

We had the Rockers.

I Think the last season there was 2013.

And so they're expanding their league and they are leaving the name open there.

There are kind of hints that we're going to go back to being the Rockers, but they are leaving the process open at this point.

My hope is they haven't killed Caitlin Clark yet.

If you haven't seen this poor girl play it, she's really talented.

And for whatever reason, if you just go to YouTube and just put in, like, Caitlin Clark getting hurt, they just the what they don't understand.

There's a little jealousy there.

And consequently, these teams are just pounding her left and right, not realizing that because of her, they have more attendance, which means more money coming in.

Because right now the wnba, the league loses money.

Like it just bleeds money.

And so they need butts in the seat and they should be embracing her because the more money she makes and the more money the league makes, the more money the players will make.

So hopefully she's still alive by 2028, because I know right now she's been out for a long time with some sort of leg injury.

And, you know, she set all sorts of records in college, but she comes in and basically, you know, it's a fight every time she gets on the court.

And you can just see where she gets up and she's looking at the referee like, hey, why didn't I get a call there?

And there's a whole other thing going on with the NBA.

Let's take another tangent where they are throwing rhymes with Schmildos on the court and which is fun.

Welcome to America.

There are places where you can place a bet to see if someone will throw one of these toys onto the court.

So 2028, Cleveland's going to be back in the WNBA, assuming it's still around.

If you're looking for something fun to do this week, this is happening tomorrow, September 3rd, at the MGM Northfield, an evening with John Cusack, the actor, and a screening of say Anything.

And if you're like, wait, what?

This is the one where he holds the boombox up and plays her song.

And I think it'd be cool just to meet John Cusack.

Also September 4th, you've got the Rubber City Jazz Fest starting September 5th, Mark Nomad, he's a comedian, will be in town as well as September 5th out at.
