Takeaways:
- We said voting feels like choosing between a douche and a turd sandwich, sadly true.
- I cheered that the political ads end tomorrow, because that campaign nonsense was exhausting.
- We covered Winter Blast details and ice rink times, so bring warm socks and fake cheer.
- I noted the airport hangar project costs millions and might create up to fifty jobs, promising.
- We warned Kent residents not to feed deer or face a ticket, because too many deer means trouble.
- I pointed out Aldi had the cheapest family pack of hamburger, because saving money still matters, apparently.

Speaker AIt's the akron podcast for November 3rd.
Speaker AHallelujah.
Speaker AIt's voting day.
Speaker AThe commercials are finally over.
Speaker AWell, I'm sure they'll be over on November 4th or whatever, but holy cow, what a bunch of horse pucky.
Speaker AAs my grandmother used to say.
Speaker AI always love this clip in this episode from South Park.
Speaker BStan, you came back.
Speaker BDoes that mean you learn the importance of voting?
Speaker CI learned that I better get used to having to pick between a douche and a turd sandwich, because it's usually the choice I'll have.
Speaker DHe's going to vote.
Speaker AIt is important that you vote.
Speaker AIt is sad that it's always, well, do you want worse or worser?
Speaker AI did see a interview with not Dr. Amy, but Vivek, Mama, Swami, whatever that guy's name is, and he was on Jillian Michaels, and I was not.
Speaker AI thought his ad with Amy's mom was tacky.
Speaker AI thought it was below the line.
Speaker ABut I'm not really a fan of Dr. Amy.
Speaker AAnd his excuse for why he did it, and I'm not making this up, was like, well, they did it first.
Speaker AAnd I was like, what are we, three?
Speaker AAnd sure enough, they had proof there that Dr. Amy.
Speaker AIt wasn't a video, but it was an art.
Speaker AI was just like, why is it giant turd versus.
Speaker AOh, it drives me nuts.
Speaker ABut the good news is, you know, tomorrow the ads will be gone.
Speaker ASo let's start off with, well, here's some good news.
Speaker AThis will get you in the mood.
Speaker ASomething to look forward to.
Speaker ALock three.
Speaker AOf course, every year does Winter Blast.
Speaker AAnd this is where, you know, they bring out all.
Speaker AYou got Santa coming.
Speaker AYou've got the giant snowman Archie, which, you know, the blinking red eyes, because that's not scary at all for small children.
Speaker AAnd of course, the ice rink is going to open up and all sorts of stuff is coming to downtown Akron really does, which is always weird.
Speaker ALike, granted, we do a lot of cool stuff in the summer, but we don't let winter slow us down.
Speaker AIt's like, who cares if it's freezing outside?
Speaker ABut it kicks off the 27th.
Speaker AIce skating again, holiday shopping.
Speaker AAll sorts of stuff will be going on.
Speaker AAnd you can check out the schedule.
Speaker AIt's going to be closed on Monday and Tuesdays.
Speaker AWednesdays and Thursdays will be 3 to 9.
Speaker AAnd then Friday and Saturday when you're ready to party on the weekend with some skating and some.
Speaker ASome bumper cars on ice, that'll be 11am to 11pm and then Sunday 11 to 6pm and you can check out I'll put a link in the show notes for more information.
Speaker ABut that is something that on one hand, you know, we used to complain like, hey, we, we didn't do Thanksgiving yet.
Speaker AWhy are we getting out?
Speaker ALook, the commercials on TV are all they were showing Christmas commercials before Halloween was over.
Speaker AHoly cow.
Speaker ASo I guess we're just all going to just like, all right, we're thankful that Christmas is coming.
Speaker AHow's that?
Speaker AAnd I've added this to the calendar.
Speaker AThey did this last year.
Speaker ALook, we know this is basically a giant commercial for Wayside Furniture, but what they're doing is they are paying for tickets.
Speaker AThey've basically probably just rented the the Civic.
Speaker AAnd what they're doing is you can see there are two free movies that you can take anybody to and it's some classics.
Speaker AYou've got Elf and the Holiday Express.
Speaker AAnd so what you do is you fill out a form.
Speaker AYou can go again, links in the show notes.
Speaker AElf will be playing at 2pm and then the Polar Express will be at 6pm this is December 19, so plan ahead.
Speaker AAnd you have to fill out a form, which I'm sure is going to get you on the mailing list of Wayside.
Speaker ABut it's a free movie and you can actually go to both of them if you wanted to.
Speaker AAnd for me, anytime you do anything at the Civic, that's always a bonus because that's an amazing place.
Speaker AIf you use the Akron Canton Airport, there's some new things going on there.
Speaker AIt's already started a new aircraft apron and a hangar.
Speaker ANow, the new hangar will be on the west side of the airport in Green in Summit County.
Speaker AAnd the project is expected to cost 6.7 million and could, and this is the good part, could create as many as 50 jobs and provide additional hangar space for aviation companies.
Speaker AThe hangar also will save space for educational programs.
Speaker ASo the groundbreaking has already happened.
Speaker AIt's an investment in the future of Akron Canton Airport and Northeast Ohio, said Ram.
Speaker AI'm sorry.
Speaker ARen Camacho, who is the president of the Akron Canton Airport and the CEO, he says by building the infrastructure aviation business need, we can open the door to new private investment, good jobs and educational opportunities.
Speaker AWe're grateful to our public and private partners for helping make this project possible.
Speaker AThe project will be funded by various sources and they include $250,000 from the Ohio Department of Transportation for $415,000 from the city of Green in Aqua, Ohio.
Speaker AI guess It's a waterline extension.
Speaker A800.
Speaker AThis is a weird one.
Speaker A$867,364.56 From the Timken foundation, the educational facility.
Speaker A$2 Million from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources as an environmental and hanger says, and then 3.2 million from the state of Ohio.
Speaker AOne time strateg fun things happening out at the airport.
Speaker AIf you live in Kent or if you're dry driving through it, you might want to know that if you have things in place to feed deer, geese, ducks, raccoons, skunks, rodents.
Speaker AFoul.
Speaker AI guess they just mean birds, chipmunks, squirrels, feral cats or other wild animals, it could result in a minor disease misdemeanor citation which carries a penalty of 150 bucks.
Speaker ALong story short, there are too many deer in Kent.
Speaker AAnd residents came out on October 7th to a city council meeting to say, like, we gotta do something.
Speaker AAnd so that's what they did.
Speaker AThey basically, they've come through.
Speaker AI guess if you live in Kent and you had a garden, forget about it because the deer come through.
Speaker AAnd the problem is they used to be afraid of humans and now everybody is feeding them.
Speaker AAnd so consequently they're just walking right up to you.
Speaker AAnd in a nutshell, they said Portage county harvested.
Speaker AThat means killed, by the way, 3,498 deer.
Speaker AThat's 19% greater than the 2,939 average in the 2025, 2026 season.
Speaker AAnd so basically deer is up.
Speaker AThey're trying to kind of help out in that area, but it's not helping when you're feeding them.
Speaker ASo you might get a fine if you're caught feeding the deer.
Speaker AThe Beacon Journal did something kind of interesting.
Speaker AI guess they've done this.
Speaker AThey call it Market Basket.
Speaker AAnd they go around and they shop at Acme, Giant Eagle, Walmart and Aldi.
Speaker AAnd the answer is, as always, I remember when I was growing up, my mom would, first of all, she had coupons because we grew up not the most richest people in the world.
Speaker AAnd then she would plan the route.
Speaker AShe'd go over to Fazio's and then Sparkle Market, trying to think of any other grocery stores that don't exist anymore and hit all these places now today with gas prices, I'm not sure that makes much sense.
Speaker ABut for example, a they were looking for like a family pack of hamburger.
Speaker AAnd the cheapest for that was Aldi at 529 with Walmart coming in second and then Giant Eagle at 699.
Speaker AAcme didn't have any, But I think we all know when it comes to prices,.
