My Trip to Lock 3

I Went Down to Lock 3

I went to Lock 3 this weekend and I have to tell you it was wonderful. I'm not sure what I expected besides no parking or expensive parking, but the whole day was wonderful.

  • Affordable Concession stands
  • Clean Restrooms
  • Free Parking (Right Next Door)

I also discovered lock 4 which has more small theater stages. It was lovely. If you haven't gone down yet, you should as they are going to begin renovating it (which makes it should like it will be more like a park with trees) see further Development Plans.

The Return of Party City

Those planning a birthday party or another celebration will have a new place to purchase their balloons, decor and other party supplies.

Party City is scheduled to open in The Shops of Fairlawn on West Market Street on 8/19. It will open in the former Pier 1 Imports location.

According to a Party City representative, this location "will be the first Next Generation Party City store in the market." This will spotlight the store's Balloon Experience, which includes a counter in the middle of the store with its own checkout. Other highlights include lower shelf heights, shorter isles and overall "easier access" to the products in the store.

In addition, Party City will offer curbside pickup, and same-day or scheduled delivery, as well as online shopping.

For details, visit www.partycity.com online.

We Salute the AFD

Two Akron firefighters were injured after a house exploded in West Akron early Monday, according to the Beacon Journal.

The department was called to the scene of a fire at a home on Winton Avenue around 2:30 a.m., and when firefighters tried to enter the house, it exploded.

The two firefighters were transported to the hospital but no major injuries were reported, according to the department.

We need to stop and think that when everyone is trying to get OUT of these buildings, the AFD is trying to go in. We thank you for your courage.

Hey, this is Dave, we have upgraded some of the technology that we're using for the Akron podcast. So if you hear some weird things like maybe an ad twice or something like that, we are working on that. And we appreciate your patience. Now, here's the show. It's August 15. This is the Akron podcast, our website, Akron, podcast.com.

Hey, I'm going to start off I went out this weekend, and I went down to lock three. Now the only time I've experienced lock three was in the winter when they were doing the ice skating thing. And to be honest with you, I did not last long, and it was dark out and things like that I went down. It was some sort of weirdo festival. I talked about it before. And I gotta tell you, it's absolutely beautiful. They have concessions there, there are restrooms right there, and the thing that I was really worried about was parking. And if you drive if you're going, if you turn left off of Market Street onto Main, so you're going past lock three, the first corner there, the first traffic light turn, right, and there's a parking deck there. And it was free. And there was plenty of parking, it was really cool. And so I also discovered that's lock three, which has the amphitheater there, if you keep walking, there's locked forward, you have this beautiful park where the canal is running through, and you've got places to sit there. There's actually a theater there, a little baby Theater, which is under the night stage, which is kind of the baby theater of the Civic. So there are three, well, they there's the Civic, that's not a little theater, the night stage, I've never seen, they have a thing of reefer madness going on if you want to check it out. And then there's this little theater under the night stage. So there are three little places to check out. Things there right there at the Civic right next to lock three. And while I was there, I guess it was a really great show. I was talking to some of the vendors that were there. They did say that next month, they are going to basically rip up lock three and start redoing it. We talked about this briefly, when they first mentioned it, and from what I understand they're going to make it look much more like a park, they're going to actually plant some trees and such. But I'll put a link there's a PDF of the plans for lot three that thanks to our good friend, Uncle Google, I was able to dig up. It's gonna be a little different, but it looks really cool. So my point here is if you've been worried about going to lock three because of parking on these events. For me, at least the parking was free.

FREE BUS RIDE

We'll stay with the free things the Akron Metro regional transit, better known as the bus. Yeah, they are providing free fares for all passengers from August 14 through the 20th in recognition of Metro passengers winning the Community Champion Award from the Akron Urban League. So if you're a bus rider, yeah, you're gonna do it for free. If you're not a bus rider, well, maybe you want to ride the bus because well, it's free.

Akron Fire Department

I want to give a shout-out as I record this, it's August 15. And I want to give a shout out to the true Akron firefighters who there was a house on fire on Winton Avenue around 230 In the morning, and when the firefighters tried to enter the house, it exploded. And that's just one of those things where you think about it, you know, you see a house on fire most of us are trying to get out of it. These guys are trying to get in. The two firefighters were transported to the hospital but no major injuries were reported. According to the fire department. One firefighter has already been released from the hospital. No one was inside the home at the time of the explosion. And crews are out trying to put it out because now that it blew up, they have to fight it from the outside. But just again, kudos to our firefighters for having the courage to run into a building that everyone else is trying to get out of

Gloria Rodgers Meetup

attention. Anyone from District Three that includes Hudson stole Silver Lake and portions of Cuyahoga Falls. GLORIA Rodgers, who is the Summit County Council will host public office hours from seven to 8:30pm. That's Thursday, August 18. That's This Week at Stow Monroe falls Public Library. That's it. 3512 Darrow rode in stow and she's going to be available to answer questions and hear concerns from her constituents, which is very cool. That's how the government is supposed to work. We talk to them, and then they go and turn our thoughts and wishes into laws. Hats off to Gloria Rogers. Again, that's the 18th at the Monroe falls Public Library.

PARTY CITY IS BACK

If you're a person that is planning a birthday party or some sort of celebration, raishin and you're like I missed the Old Party City that used to be up at Chapel Hill. Well, it's scheduled to open at the shops of Fairlawn on West Market Street this Friday. And it's going to open in the former Pier One imports location so one thing moves out and another one moves in. According to a party city representative, this location will be the first next generation Party City store in the market. This will spotlight the stores balloon experience Are You Experienced, which includes a counter in the middle of the store with its own checkout. Other highlights include lower shelf heights, shorter aisles and overall easier access to the products in the store. In addition, Party City will offer curbside pickup and same day or scheduled delivery as well as online shopping. So there you go party city back in action.

Stream Movies For Free From the Library

I should have put this with the free stuff. Did you know that you can stream movies from the Akron Public Library? I knew they had audio books, I didn't realize you can stream movies. Now there are four services to go to Akron, Akron. Did you know you can stream movies from the Akron Public Library? I knew they had audio books, I had no idea. You could do movies, if you go to Akron library.org. You'll see under the digital section. Under movies, there is hoopla Kanopy indieflix and Stingray quillow. Those are all four services that are free. All you need is a library card. And if you're like ah, I lost my library card, you can actually just use your phone, get a temporary library card. I had no idea that was available.
